On 11 and 12 March 2025, the 10th VDI conference "Optimization of industrial wastewater treatment plants" will take place in Mainz. ALMAWATECH will be giving a presentation and sharing practical experience from the treatment of complex industrial wastewater.

Efficient wastewater treatment in refineries with biofuels production
Industrial wastewater from refineries poses a particular challenge in wastewater treatment due to its composition and variable load. The increasing integration of biofuels in refinery processes is leading to changes in wastewater flows that make it necessary to adapt the oil and solids separation as well as the downstream treatment stages.
In our presentation, we present optimization measures for a refinery wastewater plant that treats wastewater streams modified by biofuels production. The focus is on the following aspects:
- Advanced oil and solids separation: New process strategies for the efficient separation of oil and solids to relieve the biological treatment stages.
- Role of filtration: Improvement of separation performance through adapted filter technologies to remove interfering solids and very fine oil droplets.
- Changes in wastewater due to biofuels production: Analysis of the effects on wastewater quality and necessary adjustments in treatment technology.

The presentation will be given by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carla Cimatoribus, expert for industrial wastewater technology and technical sales of the ALMAWATECH branch BHU in Leonberg. She has many years of experience in the optimization of biological and physico-chemical wastewater treatment processes for industrial applications.
