ECO ALMA: Sustainable Wastewater Treatment in Brazil

Our subsidiary, ECO ALMA, operates a successful disposal and treatment center near the growing city of Maringá in the Brazilian state of Paraná for industrial hazardous wastewater and contaminated landfill leachate from southern Brazil. The facility is located on its own commercial property on the outskirts of a nearby municipality. Extensive expansion areas there provide ideal conditions for the facility’s further growth. The most recent major investment expanded the chemical-physical treatment stage. As a result, the site can now also properly treat toxic wastewater from electroplating processes in accordance with the existing permit. As the next step in its development, local management plans to install a photovoltaic system. The solar power generated on-site will be used primarily for the energy-intensive aeration required in the biological wastewater treatment process. In this way, ECO ALMA is combining the further expansion of the site with an increasingly sustainable and resource-efficient energy supply.
