Task

The Düsterbach municipal wastewater treatment plant, which is assigned to the municipality of Neuenkirchen, treats not only domestic wastewater, but also wastewater from the private dairy Naarmann GmbH. In view of the considerable load on the wastewater treatment plant, the addition of a special pre-treatment unit for the dairy wastewater was unavoidable.

Design data

The wastewater to be treated comes from a milk processing plant and has a high COD. Before the dairy wastewater enters the flotation system, it is stored in a mixing and equalization tank supplied by the customer.

Waste water volume:

  • max. 40 m³/h

Target parameters:

  • COD reduction > 50 %
  • Nitrogen reduction > 30 %
  • Total phosphorus reduction > 70 %

Solution & implementation

A high-quality ALMA NeoDAF HDED 40.000 in stainless steel was designed to effectively achieve the desired target parameters. This flotation system is equipped with an automatic dosing and preparation station for the flocculant, known as ALMA Floc AD, to ensure precise and efficient treatment.

An outstanding feature of this system is the precisely controlled dosing of the precipitant, which is based on the chemical oxygen demand (COD). The COD concentration is continuously recorded via an online COD measurement at the inlet of the tube flocculator. The precipitant dosage is automatically adjusted depending on the measured COD concentration.

This innovative technology ensures optimum and efficient treatment of the wastewater and enables a targeted response to changes in the COD concentration.

The resulting flotate sludge is effectively utilized in the sewage treatment plant's biogas plant, which supports a sustainable approach to waste management and energy generation.
