Task
The renowned company Abraham S.A. has established itself as a leading manufacturer of various high-quality sliced hams, which are available in numerous European supermarkets under its own Abraham brand. The company's best-known ham products include exquisite varieties such as Black Forest ham, cured ham, bacon, prosciutto crudo, Serrano and Savoy ham.
Our collaboration with Abraham S.A. arose from the need to efficiently treat wastewater from their ham smokehouse. This is a crucial step in ensuring that wastewater treatment meets the highest environmental standards.
Design data
The wastewater to be treated comes from the in-house ham smokehouse. The wastewater has a pH value in the alkaline range, a high COD concentration and a very high chloride concentration.
Waste water volume:
- max. 35 m³/d
Target parameters:
- pH neutralization
- COD reduction of 80
Solution & implementation
In order to efficiently meet the required limit values, the wastewater undergoes a carefully coordinated treatment process. In the first step, the waste water is fed into an aerated stacking tank with an integrated grease separator.
To further reduce the chemical oxygen demand (COD), the wastewater is passed on to an aerobic aeration stage. This aeration stage is based on the fixed bed process and is supplied with oxygen by membrane aerators (ALMA BIO Compact) to enable degradation by the microbial community.
In addition to COD reduction, a dosing station(ALMA FLOC dosing station) is used for defoaming and phosphate precipitation. This station, installed in a neighboring ALMA MODULE, contributes to a further improvement in wastewater quality.
After a retention time of 2 days, the treated wastewater passes through an integrated separator to remove the dead biomass and thus optimize the quality of the purified water.
