Task
RHM is a recycling centre that operates throughout Germany and specializes in the recycling of metallic raw materials and residual materials. With a total of 12 locations in Germany, RHM is an important player in the industry. At our site in Mülheim an der Ruhr, RHM concentrates on the shredding, processing and recycling of steel, metal and alloyed scrap, foundry scrap, industrial residues and hat residues.
In 2021, ALMAWATECH successfully delivered a dissolved air flotation system to treat the wastewater from the metal chip washing plant and the rainwater collected from the scrap metal storage areas. This innovative technology makes it possible to minimize environmental impact while promoting sustainable recycling processes.
Design data
The wastewater to be treated is characterized by a considerable proportion of solids and an extremely high metal content. It is made up of the waste water from the metal chip washing plant and the rainwater collected from the storage areas for scrap metal.
- Waste water volume: max. 1 - 3 m³/h
Target parameters:
- pH value 6.5 - 9.5
- Kohlenwasserstoffe < 20 mg/l
- Heavy metals in accordance with Annex 27 of the AbwV
Solution & implementation
Our solution includes a compact dissolved air flotation system(ALMA NeoDAF Blue) with belt filtration, as well as sand and activated carbon filters(ALMA FIL AK) to separate all sludge flocs.
The belt filter effectively dewaters the flotation sludge produced. The dewatered sludge is collected with the filter cloth in a movable sludge container and can be disposed of as required.
Two ALMA FLOC M units were installed as preparation and dosing stations for the primary flocculant and the flocculation aid.
