Viterra Magdeburg GmbH is a leading producer of biodiesel, pelletized rapeseed extraction scrap and glycerine with a purity of 99.5%. It is one of the largest biodiesel producers in Europe. Together with its parent company Viterra B.V., the company offers its customers innovative and sustainable solutions at its sites in 37 countries with over 17,200 employees.
Our task was to build a wastewater treatment plant for the pre-treatment of production wastewater from biodiesel production at the Magdeburg site.

Solution & implementation
In the first process step, the solids are separated from the wastewater using a drum screen. The almost solids-free wastewater is then homogenized in a buffer tank to ensure a consistent wastewater composition even in the event of production fluctuations. This procedure promotes the process stability of the wastewater treatment.
After homogenization, the wastewater enters a precipitation reactor in which precipitants and neutralizing agents are stirred in. After a defined reaction time, the wastewater is pumped into the ALMA NeoDAF HDED dissolved air flotation system. Our tubular flocculator, in which the flocculant is dosed inline, is installed in the pipe section to the flotation unit. The special design of the tube flocculator ensures optimum floc formation. The flocculant is dosed using our ALMA FLOC AC automatic dosing and preparation station.
The ALMA NeoDAF HDED dissolved air flotation system separates the precipitated and flocculated impurities. The treated wastewater passes through a measuring section for final inspection before it is discharged into the sewer. The resulting flotate sludge is stored in a sludge pile and then disposed of professionally.
The system was installed in a special industrial tent.
